Camping Cocktails

Everyone has their own camping style and their own motivations for getting out into the great outdoors. For us, the relaxation of being far from the city, often with no reception and the opportunity to see some of the most beautiful parts of the country are the reasons we are camping addicts.
Because we aren't really limited on space, we don’t have to resort to two minute noodles and water. As you might have already noticed, we take full advantage of this. Once you have set up camp, finished exploring for the day and the bush telly (fire) is on, you have all the time in the world to cook up something special or go all out on a crazy cocktail recipe.
Here are a few of our go-to camping cocktails

Dressing up a Gin
Gin is one of those versatile spirits that loves getting frocked up for the party. Gin additions can be on the savoury side like cucumber, red capsicum or even rosemary, or for the sweet tooth out there pomegranate, green apple or passionfruit. Choose seasonal fruits or vegetables for the best results and play around with what goes best with what Gin. Some of the boutique distilleries have some really interesting styles that come with their own recommendations but there are no rules, have fun with it.
HOT TIP - we have some tonic drinkers among us but we are also a massive fan of soda in our gin it helps keep it all about the flavour of the gin. It might seem excessive but we often bring the soda stream camping with us. We love that we have less wastage which cuts down the amount of rubbish to bring home and in the end for a big group the soda stream and a couple of bottles takes up much less space than loads of single use bottles.

Espresso Martini
Now if there was ever an ingredient we are never without on a trip it’s coffee! So why not play to your strengths, after a big day bushwalking and exploring this is the perfect post set down pick-me-up. Check out our easy Espresso Martini recipe that is just perfect for camping.

Bloody Mary's
The perfect 'day after' pick me up! Now here is a cocktail you can play with. We have gone the simple road of vodka tomato juice, tabasco, salt and pepper right up to 12+ ingredient recipes. Tailor it to your taste, space and amount of effort you feel like putting in. Check out these crowd pleasers or our brunch Bloody Mary for some inspiration.
Impress your friends next trip by whipping out the cocktail shaker by the campfire, you won’t be disappointed. It's the perfect way to set the tone for relaxation and for our money the bush bar is the best bar in town.
